Couples therapy

For two people who want to talk to each other better

For two people of any age who want to understand each other better, whatever each one's language.

Each couple speaks in the language that suits them: Spanish, English or both mixed together, as at home. Your therapist gives each person a turn and does not take sides.

You can talk about

  • How you talk to each other when you are tired

  • Each person's family and its place in the couple

  • Money, time and household tasks

  • What each person finds hard to say

How we work

What couples sessions are like

  • What a session is like

Each session lasts 80 minutes, in person or by video. At first there may be a conversation with each person separately.

  • The method

Your therapist explains which method they use and which body they trained with. If the method isn't working for you, we talk it over with you.

  • What it is not

Your therapist does not decide for you whether to stay together. And if there is violence in the relationship, couples therapy is not the first step: speak with your therapist alone, or call the line listed under Help now.

  • Pace and length

You and your therapist decide how often to meet. There is no number of sessions set in advance.

Questions

Three questions about this service

What if only one of us wants to come?

That person can start with individual therapy. If later you both want to, you move to couples sessions.

Can we speak Spanish and English at the same time?

Yes. Many of our therapists speak both languages, and you can mix them the way you do at home.

Do you see couples who aren't married?

Yes. We see two people, whether or not they are married, and whether or not they live together.

How is couples therapy paid for?

The fee depends on the therapist and the length, and we give it to you in writing before you start. It is all in How fees work.
